Welcome to

Sister Parish Ministry

Sister Parish Ministry (SPM) is a faith-based, 501(c)(3) organization that works with those most in need within the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Our objective is to evangelize and witness Catholic values, while also providing lifesaving and life-improving support, such as medical, dental, pharmaceutical, and nutritional care, pre-school education, training to improve work opportunities, and community and infrastructure improvements.

Passionate innovators
dedicated to excellence
and growth.

Originally, the vast majority of the Ministry missionaries and volunteers were members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Currently, ministry activities have expanded to include several other Catholic parishes and parochial schools in the Diocese of St. Augustine. Additionally, people of all faiths are welcome to become both missionaries and volunteers.
We are from all walks of life. We are mothers, fathers, students, doctors, nurses, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and construction professionals. Most of us speak no Spanish.
We are united by a desire to serve and a desire to make a difference in the world.

What is  Sister Parish Ministry?

The Sister Parish Ministry is a program of faith in action. We are what we do. We have established a partner relationship between the Diocese of St. Augustine, Florida, and various Catholic parishes in and near Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. One parish, Santo Domingo Savio, is located in Los Guandules, one of the poorest barrios of Santo Domingo. Another parish, San Antonio de Padua, serves the residents of a small town located east of the capital, as well as residents of a number of bateyes (migrant- worker camps) occupied primarily by Haitian families. These partnerships are active relationships, which involve work, connection, bonding and service from all partners. They are not states of being, they are states of doing.
